One webinar participant asked me, "Is this a learning thing about business? Or if you made a mistake and it was about this person's life?
This question about the webinar made me smile. S wondered whether the webinar was about me and my personal life. I had fun with this question. You spent so much time starting, running, and growing your business if you are so inclined (as I was). Business is part of your life. How much depends on how much YOU want it in your life.
I know from experience. For the first ten years of my business, I worked 24/7. I thought my family was an essential part of my life. My actions? Work was the most important part of my life: I spent all my time working. In the next ten years, we thought in a new way. We grew 20 times. And the essential part of this growth, I had the time and the profits that gave me more time with my family.
S, you thought it was about my life. Well, it was about my life. Family is number one. I was not acting that way. I made choices to work work work. It was not until I made my value of growing a thriving environment for my employees a possibility. I wanted them to have what I have, professionally and financially. I shared the what, how, and, most importantly, the how in this webinar.
Here is S's question:
Is this a learning thing about business? Is this a learning thing about business? Or if you made a mistake and it was about this person's life?
Here is my Response:
Dear S,
Thank you for sharing your afternoon with me.
You have a great question about whether this is a learning thing about business, or if you made a mistake and it was about my personal life?
Well, no, and yes.
No, it is about the three key principles that have grown my organization to the top 3% in the country. Yes, it is about the age-old story of a business taking over my life.
I believe that we all create and build our businesses to:
- make a profit,
- have fun.
- more free time or the opportunity for more time
- and also create a life for ourselves and our families.
Over the last 12 years of speaking and hosting business development workshops,
I found that many owners have the same stories.
When I bought into my company, what I thought would happen instead of giving me freedom, profit, and a life, my company took over my life.
I was growing the business by working with my partner 24/7.
I came to a crossroads.
It happened in Tomorrowland.
My triplet daughters stopped me cold.
I was on the phone all day long. IN MICKY'S HOUSE!
I wanted to grow a great business.
Yet, I knew I wanted to be part of my family and triplet daughters.
So, yes, you are not mistaken. I am talking about life.
I met many owners out in the world who have the business taking over their lives.
These owners know what they want but don't know how to get there.
I have solutions to grow differently.
To grow an organization.
To have their organization satisfy the owners as well as the employees.
To make more profit and to have more fun.
To enjoy life.
These three key principles: It doesn't matter what I call them. When you look at successful companies, they have these three principles. They WORK.
Systems run the company.
People run the systems.
Leaders lead the people.
I hope that helps. Domenic
